The Greene County Ram varsity baseball team opened its season Wednesday evening with a 12-point shut-out on the road in Colfax against the Colfax-Mingo Tigerghawks. The game was called after five innings.
Senior Colton Fitzpatrick pitched the first two innings. He struck out four batters, walked four and allowed no hits. Junior Daric Whipple pitched the last three and struck out four, walked one and allowed four hits. Whipple was credited with the win.
The Rams’ bats were connecting, with 10 Rams getting hits. The score was 2-0 after one inning and 11-0 after two innings. Senior Alex Rasmussen hit a double and had two RBIs. Seniors Jordan Challen and Jordan Hostetler hit three singles each, with Challen getting two RBIs and Hostetler getting one. Fitzpatrick, senior Riah Nelsen, Whipple, juniors Reid Lamoureux and Tyler Beger, and sophomore Trey Tucker hit one single each, with Beger getting two RBIs and Fitzpatrick and Nelsen getting one RBI each. Senior Dylan McConnell hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI.
